My battle cry funeral song

OK - this is morbid. Blogging about funeral songs probably marks a new low. But don't we all think about it sometimes? Picture the scene: coffin, mourners (if you are lucky), church (or similar) and then, THE SONG. I could leave it to my relatives, but my Dad would be keen on Status Quo (scores high on the fun factor). Meanwhile, my husband would be a puddle on the floor. In the round, its probably best to be organised about these things...... So what do you choose?

Dan Mangan wrote my funeral song. I finally got to see him play it in concert last night. Legend. Apparently, the song was written for an elderly relative who was suffering dementia (no I am not suffering from dementia - yet). But the song he wrote is a battle cry about being human and getting older and about hanging onto your sense of self. Its wryly funny and desperately sad but its also defiant. I like the defiance most of all.

I guess I am the person who never wants the party to end. There is too much to do. Obviously, it has to come to an end at some point, but when it does, this song will get played and you will know how I felt about that. I just hope its not before I have made a definitively epic pot... or I'll be really pissed.

Click on the link - maybe you will understand. You have to listen all the way through to the battle cry. Repeat after me: "I used to be so young, how did I get so old?"
