New experiments

As with many potters, the Autumn and Winter months are used for experimenting with new techniques and ideas. I have been playing with black clay for a few years now, culminating in these recent pieces. The black clay needs thoughtful treatment as bisque fired black clay can appear quite brown rather than black. The clay is overlaid with slip once quite dry, a bit like the "lichen" vessels. Anyway, this is just a preview of the work going on behind the scenes. There is some work to be done yet, but the general idea is that a collection of similar pieces may be suitable for an exhibition in the Summer of next year at Gallery 57 in Arundel, Sussex.

Hello Janene.
I was one of the potters at Jane Richardson’s studio which you visited this morning. I looked you up! And I love your work, especially the lichen encrusted pieces. In fact I came across your tall pitchers a while ago, and admired them. How lovely to meet the maker in person.
